Job Summary

To engage and support young people through a range of activities and issue based programmes. To promote the work of Clare Youth Service in the community. To carry out outreach in Ennis and other areas in the wider Shannon regions. To identify and engage hard to reach “at risk” young people currently not accessing the service and support them to engage. 

Job Responsibilities

General Work Outline

  • Promote the work of Clare Youth Service in Ennis and other areas in the wider Shannon region. 
  • To carry out outreach and to identify and engage hard to reach “at risk” young people.
  • Initiating appropriate interventions and activities on an outreach basis. 
  • Support young people identified though outreach in accessing supports and programmes to meet their needs. 
  • Initiate and assist the development of new groups to meet identified or perceived needs. 
  • Support 16-25 years olds in developing skills enabling them to access further training, education and employment as appropriate. 
  • Delivery of a range of activity groups identified by young people i.e.: art, cooking, technology etc 
  • Support young people though delivery of programmes on drug and alcohol awareness, sexual health, mental wellbeing etc. 
  • Liaise with other agencies e.g. Schools, Tusla, Gardaí, where appropriate.
  • Integrate youth service into wider community structure, e.g. schools, library, local events etc. 
  • Being available to any young person in the area who may need support. 
  • Implement Clare Youth Service policies and programmes in the area.
  • Take part in staff and agency development programmes of Clare Youth Service.
  • Undertake other duties as assigned to her/him by the CEO/Manager from time to time.

Administrative

  • Keep basic financial records.
  • Minor fundraising and grant applications.
  • Produce monthly, and other reports and submissions as required.
  • Produce a PR plan for the project. 
  • Maintain clear records of the work with the participants including tracking sheets, application forms, referral forms, permission slips, photograph and newspaper clippings etc.

Other

  • Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • The Youth Workers will operate within the philosophy of the Clare Youth Service.
  • The position is dependent on satisfactory Garda clearance on appointment and at intervals thereafter and on completion of Child Safeguarding training.
  • This post is subject to ongoing funding.
  • This post includes a substantial number of evenings and also every weekend. 
  • A probationary period will apply.

Candidate Requirements

The successful candidate will be an experienced, dynamic and committed individual who will deliver the work plan of this project. This post involves significant work on evenings and weekends including outreach in Ennis and other areas in the wider Shannon region. This is a targeted project working with young people aged 13 to 24 years of age. 

Essential Requirements

  • Third level educatiton.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience.
  • Previous experience of working with young people.
  • Proven ability to engage with hard to reach young people.
  • Knowledge of Child Protection and safeguarding.
  • Knowledge of best practice.
  • Ability to self-manage.
  • Commitment to excellent work practice including excellent time keeping. 
  • Ability to relate respectfully to the general public including children and teenagers. 
  • Respectful engagement with volunteers.
  • Understanding and commitment to working in a flexible manner. 
  • Ability to prepare and write reports.
  • Tusla Children First E-Learning Programme https://www.tusla.ie/children-first/children-first-e-learning-programme/ 
  • Child Protection Training and Certification.
  • Successful Garda Vetting.
  • Two independent referees – former employers or persons of standing in the community. 
  • Full drivers licence and own car.

Desirable Requirements

  • Voluntary or professional experience working with children or young people. 
  • Experience of working as part of a team. 
  • Child Protection Training and Certification.
